Why is everything the way it is? What existed before everything was here? And will it still be here later, or will there be nothing at all?
Wat was en wat nu sparks the imagination. Between somewhere and nowhere, darkness and light, order and chaos, a world emerges—mysterious and unpredictable. Sometimes very small, then suddenly vast. Three figures search for a beginning, an end, and everything in between.
Wat was en wat nu was created as part of the Leuven city festival KNAL!, inspired by priest-physicist Georges Lemaître, who formulated the Big Bang theory. Anna Bentivegna, Zoë Demoustier, and Ayrton Fraenk studied together at the Mime Program of the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam. In their first creation with fABULEUS, nesten (4+), they developed a sensitive, slightly surreal visual language for children. With Wat was en wat nu, they further refine this style, drawing inspiration from myths, religions, and science. Jef Van Gestel, as with nesten, is responsible for the final direction.
